I recently went to see a fabulous art exhibit at the Art Institute of Chicago – Impressionism, Fashion and Modernity. It was quite an exquisite exhibit showcasing the relationship between art and fashion between the mid-1860s through the mid 1880’s as Paris became the style capital of the world. Among many amazing painters it features paintings by Renoir, Monet, Manet, Degas, Caillebotte, Seurat and others. Fashion is such a prominent reflection of culture the times we live in and how it changes. It’s so wonderful to be able to see it depicted in these incredible paintings and even see some of the gowns displayed next to the paintings. If you love fashion and art as much as I do, you have to go see this exhibit as its something you can’t quite explain and it ends soon. I could seriously wonder there for hours and get lost in the paintings and the stories behind them. Enjoy and I would love to hear your experience!
